Future Secured For Devon’s Premier Primestock Show

Created: Saturday 01 June 2019

The National Beef Association South West is delighted to confirm that the Devon County Agricultural Association will take over the running of Agrifest South West this year.  The event, hosted at Westpoint, has been running since 2004 and attracts some of the very best in commercial and pedigree beef and sheep from across the country.  The retirement of its long-standing Secretary, Vicky Smith, prompted some speculation about its future but an agreement with the DCAA will ensure that it will take place on Wednesday 6th November this year.

Bill Harper from the NBA commented, ‘Agrifest has developed into an excellent event under Vicky’s stewardship and we are delighted that the DCAA have agreed to take on the running in light of her retirement. We are confident that their experienced team will continue to grow and expand the event’.   In 2018 the event saw over 50 agricultural businesses attend with tradestands and an additional 25 support through sponsorship.  ‘Agrifest is an excellent opportunity for South West farmers to learn more about new innovations in their industry, hear from key government officials and talk to their suppliers.  In addition to this it’s a valued social get together and, of course, an opportunity to compete’.

Sam Mackenzie-Green, Show Manager at the DCAA said ‘my team are really looking forward to working on Agrifest.  Having had it take place at Westpoint over the last couple of years we have already seen what a great event it is and the potential it has to become the premier winter agricultural event in the South West.  To host a second event, in addition to the Devon County Show, which showcases the very best in beef and sheep breeding and production in the region is fantastic’.

The NBA South West have confirmed that they will continue to support the event by organising political and technical speakers.  In the past farmers have been able to put questions to the likes of Neil Parish MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary, Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, and learn about new advances in agricultural technologies from leaders in the field.  Bill Harper commented ‘this has always been an important part of the Agrifest event and we are delighted to be able to continue to provide this essential forum opportunity to farmers from across the South West’.

Agrifest 2019 will take place on Wednesday 6th November at Westpoint, Exeter.  There are opportunities for bot sponsors and tradestands.  For more information please contact Sally Anne Daniel on 01392 353705 or livestock@dcshow.org.
