Agrifest South West Announce Involvement of The Royal Smithfield Club at This Year’s Show.

Vicky Smith, Secretary to the NBA South West and organiser of Agrifest South West being held at Westpoint  Exeter 0n November 8th, announced last week that The Royal Smithfield Club will be supporting the new event this year.

William Bedell, Chairman of Royal Smithfield, was invited to speak at the Stockman’s dinner at last week’s Devon County Show.

He said he was delighted that the Club will be at the expanding Agrifest South West event. He explained that Smithfield will award trophies for the supreme champions in both the commercial cattle and the commercial sheep competitions.

In addition the Club will organise and run a beef ribs competition and, if possible, a saddle of lamb class as well.

He explained that the way forward for the Royal Smithfield Club is to become involved in the regions working with local Smithfield Club members and the organisers of the major primestock events to help add new features for the livestock industry.

Agrifest South West – formerly Beef South West has been well supported by local businesses for which we are very grateful; without the support of our sponsors and it would not be possible to stage such an event. Mole Valley Farmers have been mainline sponsors of the event for many years; they are very pleased to be supporting this new venture and are excited about the involvement of The Royal Smithfield Club, said Vicky

Robert Venner, Event chairman commented In addition to the commercial primestock and prime lamb classes we will be adding breed classes to the pedigree calf section of this year’s schedule. The Royal Smithfield club’s endorsement is just the boost we wanted, and we are delighted they have seen fit to support us. This year’s event will be a Red Letter Calendar day for all beef and sheep producers in the West Country.

The NBA in the South West are pleased to welcome the Royal Smithfield Club to support their expanding show, their involvement will help achieve our goals of red meat production in the South West both commercially and technically, commented Bill Harper NBA Board member and South West Chairman.
